Honda Motor Co. is recalling over 300,000 vehicles for air bags that inflate with too much pressure and send metal and plastic debris flying around causing injuries and deaths. So far in the United States there have been 20 accidents where this defect has been reported resulting in at least two deaths. The recalls will affect 2001 and 2002 Accord; the 2001 to 2003 Civic and Odyssey; the 2002 and 2003 CR-V and Acura 3.2 TL; and the 2003 Pilot. This latest recall is an expansion of recalls for the same problem in 2008 and again in 2009. This recall now covers over 2 million vehicles worldwide. Apparently the cause of this defect according to a Honda spokesperson was the incorrect use of materials in the chemicals used to deploy the bags. See Honda's recall press release here.
